Kim Kardashian recently opened up about the emotional challenges she faced while dissolving her marriage to Kanye West, reflecting on how various circumstances led to its breakdown. During the February 13 episode of The Kardashians, a conversation between Khloé Kardashian and Kris Jenner about Khloé’s reconciliation with ex-husband Lamar Odom prompted Kim to share her own thoughts on divorce.
Khloé spoke about marrying Lamar too quickly but explained that their relationship might have lasted if not for his struggles with addiction. She expressed that “the love of my life” was taken away by drugs, admitting that none of them knew about his addiction until it had progressed significantly. Kim, in turn, related her experience to Khloé’s, discussing the pain of watching a partner change into someone unrecognizable. Kim shared how difficult it is when a person transforms in a way that makes the relationship irreparable, saying, “When you don’t foresee something happening that really changes a person’s personality… you can’t ever get that person back.”
In a confessional, Kim further elaborated on the deep emotional toll of a breakup that you didn’t want, but felt was unavoidable due to external circumstances. She explained that when the marriage changes in such a way that it cannot be salvaged, even if it’s not the outcome you desire, it makes moving on much harder.
Kim and Kanye, who share four children—North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm—ended their marriage in 2021 after six years together. Court documents revealed that Kim sought to be declared legally single before the divorce was finalized, citing ongoing issues with Kanye, especially their public co-parenting conflicts, which were made more difficult by Kanye’s social media posts.
After her divorce, Kim briefly dated Pete Davidson and was rumored to have a relationship with Odell Beckham Jr., though that ended in early 2024. New episodes of The Kardashians are available every Thursday on Hulu.
