Delhi Commission for Women chairperson sends notice to Delhi police for the arrest of Disha Ravi

The chairperson for the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal sent a notice to the Delhi police asking for information on the arrest of 22-year-old activist Disha Ravi.

The commission has asked the police to reply by 19th February. The letter specifically addressed the Cyber crime cell Deputy Commissioner of Police. They included reports from the media saying Ravi was arrested without informing her parents and was brought to Delhi without first being presented before a Bengaluru court for a transit permission. They also mentioned that she was brought before a court in Delhi court without her own lawyer. “Also, Article 22(1) of the Constitution of India says that every person arrested has the right to be defended by a legal practitioner by his choice”, they said.

The panel tweeted the copy of the notice that they sent. Disha Ravi was arrested on Saturday by the Delhi police for sharing a toolkit first shared by Greta Thunberg on her twitter handle.
