4 detected with South African COVID-19 strain in India

The Union Government said that four cases of the South African strain of COVID-19 has been detected in four people who returned from South Africa in January.

Currently, the South African variant has been found in 41 countries including the US. As of now the cases in India are very low barring Kerala and Maharashtra that have relatively more cases. The World Health Oraganisation (WHO) has said that new strains are likely to spread faster. As of now there are 187 cases of the UK strain and 1 case of the Brazilian strain of COVID-19.

All four people detected with the South African strain have been quarantined.
