Supreme Court dismisses Hindustan Unilever petition

Supreme Court on Tuesday has dismissed the special leave petition was filed by Hindustan Unilever against German soap brand named Sebamed. Hindustan Unilever in its petition against Sebamed said the company is using disparaging advertisements against its product to create a name for the newly entered soap company in the Indian market by creating a false narrative about its the rival products.

The Court refused the stay on Bombay High Court on Jan 18 which gave Sebamed the rights to run its ad campaign naming its rivals product. Sebamed had previously run a print ad campaign which highlighted that Sebamed products are ideal for sensitive skins due to its ideal pH level while it claimed that other products have higher pH level naming Pears, Lux, Santoor and Dove, directly in the ad.

Hindustan Unilever Advocate Abhishekh Singhvi argued that Sebamed could have promoted its product without degrading any rival products and as a new kid on the block is trying to grab attention for all the wrong reasons.
