Mahesh Bhatt says Parveen Babi should have left Bollywood amid her mental health struggles

Nobody is unaware of Mahesh Bhatt and Parveen Babi’s relationship. Even at that time, the actress was battling mental health issues. However, because it happened in the 1970s, Babi never received a formal diagnosis.

In a recent interview, the filmmaker discussed how her physiological susceptibility should have caused her to exit from the field. She was nevertheless making an effort to reintegrate into the competitive environment.

Mahesh Bhatt recalled Parveen Babi’s last days on the Himanshu Mehta Show. He asserted that she was unable to escape the spotlight despite her precarious state. According to the filmmaker, every effort was made to help the late actress understand that she shouldn’t try to fit herself back into this extremely competitive industry after experiencing such breakdowns.

“But I think it’s very difficult to turn your back on it once you have tasted this business, the high of the arc lights,” Mahesh continued. “However, the tragedy that befell her was unthinkable.”

Mahesh Bhatt also discussed Parveen Babi’s final words, “dar lagta hai” (I am terrified), in the same interview. He also disclosed that she was a straightforward woman at heart, despite the fact that she only ever displayed the flashy side of life.

“She was a modest woman from Junagadh, Gujarat, who preferred to cook at home and put oil in her hair behind closed doors. However, she used to look like a superstar thanks to her glitzy wardrobe. However, she was a straightforward girl on the inside.”

Mahesh previously revealed in an interview with BBC News Hindi that Parveen hardly ever brought up her previous marriage, but that it would come up from time to time when her mother, who was from Junagadh, visited. Bhatt claims that Parveen’s mother would sometimes bring up the fact that she was previously married but that her husband had left for Pakistan and never came back. This occurred when Bhatt and Parveen were living together.
