Mumbai hawker assaulted in dispute over space sharing; one person arrested

According to police, one of the suspects was arrested after two brothers and their accomplice allegedly attacked a hawker in Mumbai’s Goregaon neighborhood on Wednesday over sharing a place for selling goods.

Akshay Shivmani Patil and Sagar Shivmani Patil are brothers who have several cases filed against them, including extortion and attempted murder. When the three men urged the hawker, Victor Pereira, to make room for Chavan, who wanted to sell flowers there, an altercation broke out between him and the males, according to an official.

When a video of the assault went viral, police filed a formal complaint (FIR), and Rohan Chavan, one of the Patil brothers’ accomplices, was taken into custody. While the Patil brothers are being sought, Chavan was taken into custody under the appropriate Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) laws. Investigations are still under progress.
