Amaal Mallik opens up about depression and fallout with family

Music composer Amaal Mallik revealed inside Bigg Boss 19 that a breakup, arguments with his mother, and an identity crisis pushed him to distance himself from his family and battle depression.

Amaal Mallik, who recently entered Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19, has made a candid confession about his emotional struggles and strained family ties. During a conversation with co-contestant Zeishan Quadri, the singer-composer revisited the time when he posted an emotional note online, admitting he was battling depression and had cut ties with his family. Though the post was later deleted, it sparked wide discussions about his mental health.

Opening up on the show, Amaal said he went through an identity crisis despite working on several hit songs. He explained that while his younger brother Armaan Malik never made him feel inferior, he often felt overlooked. Things escalated after a major argument with his mother, which he described as the final trigger.

Amaal revealed that constant criticism directed at Armaan, his father Daboo Malik, and even questions about his mother’s upbringing made him consider separating himself from the family name.
He further shared that his emotional turmoil was worsened by a painful breakup and the loss of his dog, which pushed him over the edge.

Earlier this year, Amaal had publicly admitted on Instagram that he was clinically depressed, drained emotionally, and had chosen to keep his relationship with his family strictly professional for the sake of healing.

Later, his father Daboo Malik also acknowledged his mistakes, admitting that he had taken Amaal for granted while giving more importance to Armaan. With Amaal now inside Bigg Boss 19, his revelations have once again put the spotlight on his personal battles.
