Shanaya Kapoor seems to be finally getting the much-anticipated Dharma launch that had been eluding her for years. After facing several setbacks with projects that never took off, the young starlet is now stepping into the limelight with Student of the Year 3. Unlike its previous film installments, the franchise is being revived as a web series directed by Reema Maya, with filming set to begin on April 20. Reports suggest that Shanaya will add an exciting twist by playing a double role.
This development comes after a string of disappointments. Shanaya was initially announced as the lead in Dharma Productions’ Bedhadak alongside Lakshya Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada, but the film was later shelved. Buzz around her career reignited when it was revealed that she would headline the third installment of the hit Student of the Year franchise, which earlier launched stars like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria.
Interestingly, Shanaya already made her official debut earlier this year with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, directed by Santosh Singh and co-starring Vikrant Massey. The film followed the story of Jahaan, a visually impaired musician, and Saba, a visually impaired actress, who connect during a train journey and navigate the complexities of love. Despite its heartfelt premise, the film failed to leave a mark at the box office.
Now, with Student of the Year 3, Shanaya has a chance to make the big impact that industry watchers have long been waiting for. The web series format, coupled with her rumored double role, promises to bring a fresh take to Karan Johar’s popular franchise.
