Yami Gautam reveals why she refuses cosmetic surgery despite industry pressures

Yami Gautam opened up about rejecting cosmetic surgery and recalled a moment when she was asked to alter her eyebrows, stressing that she wants to stay natural on screen without distractions.

Bollywood actor Yami Gautam has always chosen authenticity over industry pressures, and in a recent interview, she made it clear why she will never undergo cosmetic surgery. The actor recalled an incident when a senior makeup artist suggested that she alter her eyebrows to make her look “edgier.”

Yami remembered, “I was told to change one of my eyebrows so that the curve could be removed. They perhaps wanted my eyebrows to look like two snails approaching each other (laughs)! My heart really sank, and I just told him we should move on and get ready.”

The actor further explained that cosmetic enhancements, while they may look appealing on magazine covers, could become a distraction for audiences watching films. “When you see me on screen, you shouldn’t have to focus on why my face, cheeks or lips look unnatural. That can’t become a distraction. Even if I wasn’t an actor, I wouldn’t undergo any procedure that alters the structure of my face or puts something I don’t believe in into my skin,” Yami said, adding that such treatments might have long-term consequences.

Over the years, many stars including Khushi Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra have admitted to cosmetic procedures, while others like Kareena Kapoor have chosen to stay away. Yami firmly belongs to the latter group, emphasizing her commitment to staying true to herself.

On the work front, Yami was last seen in Sapan Varma’s romantic comedy Dhoom Dhaam with Pratik Gandhi, now streaming on Netflix. She will next appear in Haq, a courtroom drama with Emraan Hashmi, slated for release on November 7.
