United Airlines Flight 328 had an explosive engine failure that caused debris to fall over a Denver suburb. The flights using the Boeing 777 aircraft were put to a halt while The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered emergency inspections of engine fan blades.
The 777s furnished with PW4077 motors made by Raytheon Technologies Corp’s. Pratt and Whitney division were inspected. Likewise, Korean Air Lines Co. ended all activity of 777 planes with the Pratt motor variation.
The aircraft had 231 passengers and 10 crew members on board, the flight safely landed back in Denver. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), two fan blades were fractured on the United flight.
“We recommended suspending operations of the 69 in-service and 59 in-storage 777s powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines until the FAA identifies the appropriate inspection protocol,” Boeing said in a statement.
