Ismail Darbar shares his views on Gauahar Khan working after marriage to Zaid

Music composer Ismail Darbar opens up about his daughter-in-law Gauahar Khan, emphasizing family values and his expectations while acknowledging he cannot stop her from working, saying only her husband Zaid has that right.

Veteran film score composer Ismail Darbar recently spoke candidly about his daughter-in-law Gauahar Khan and her career, sparking attention with his forthright remarks. In an interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Darbar discussed his expectations for his family and drew comparisons with his wife, Ayesha Darbar.

He said, “All I know is that she has a wonderful relationship with Zaid, and that she is a wonderful mother. There is no harm in being honest about this. However, the greatest thing my wife Ayesha did was stop working for her child’s sake. She was making ₹5 lakh a month through shows at the time, and was also getting acting offers. Even when I was in need of money, she didn’t offer to earn for us.”

Ismail, who comes from a conservative background, explained, “Look, we used to turn away whenever a sensuous type of scene would come in a movie. This happens in our house even today. Gauahar is part of our family now, and we are responsible for her reputation. But I can’t tell her not to work  that right only Zaid has. So I don’t indulge in activities that might bother me.”

He added that while he respects family boundaries, he will speak up if necessary: “I’m not one to mince my words. I know that I will not be able to tolerate what I see, and if I am not able to tolerate what I see, I will confront them.”Gauahar and Zaid tied the knot in 2020 and are parents to two sons, Zehaan, born in 2023, and their second child, welcomed earlier this year in September.
