Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival postponed to 2026 in honour of late Zubeen Garg

The 10th edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival has been postponed as Assam mourns the loss of its beloved cultural icon Zubeen Garg. Organisers said the event will now be held in 2026 to honour the late musician and filmmaker’s legacy.

The organisers of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) have announced the postponement of its 10th edition following the passing of legendary Assamese artist Zubeen Garg. Originally scheduled for December 4 to 7, the festival will now take place in 2026 as a mark of respect to the singer, composer, and filmmaker whose work profoundly shaped Assam’s cultural identity.

Festival Director Tanushree Hazarika shared that the decision came after heartfelt discussions with advisors and the core team. “Zubeen Garg, a musician, filmmaker and humanitarian whose voice and vision defined generations, was not just an artist, he was an emotion that united people across the Northeast and beyond,” she said. “As a festival rooted in this land and its people, it doesn’t feel right to celebrate when the heart of our culture is in mourning. This year, we pause to remember, to reflect and to honour him.”

Festival Creative Director Pallavi Chumki Barua echoed similar sentiments, expressing gratitude towards filmmakers, partners, and audiences for their support. “While this year is a time for pause, we look ahead to returning stronger, with the same passion for meaningful cinema and cultural exchange,” she noted.

Technical Director Samujjal Kashyap added that though the milestone 10th edition will be delayed, the spirit of BVFF remains strong. Organisers have also assured full refunds to filmmakers who submitted their entries for this year’s edition.
