Karnataka Govt. plans to deploy marshals in weddings

The recent rise in COVID-19 has led to the Karnataka government employing marshals to ensure safe distancing is followed and masks are worn at weddings and other events.

Minister of health and family welfare and medical education in Karnataka Dr. K Sudhakar said, “People attending large gatherings are not following the deadlines. In fact, people urged me to remove (my own) mask when I attended a function. Therefore, it is necessary to deploy a marshal to ensure COVID-19 guidelines are followed.” The Centre mandated all gatherings be subject to standard operating procedures (SOPs) in every state and Union Territory. Karnataka has recorded a total of 3,293 cases over the past week.

This new guideline will be an addition to other guidelines already issued by the Karnataka government, including COVID-19 negative certificates from those entering Karnataka from Maharashtra or Kerala. Sudhakar expressed his wish for Karnataka to not end up like Maharashtra and have high number of COVID-19 cases.
