Zubeen Garg’s last film Roi Roi Binale dominates Assam theatres; Thamma, Kantara pulled off screens, Baahubali misses out on shows

The nation lamented the unexpected death of great vocalist Zubeen Garg on September 19. As a sincere homage, the state of Assam has chosen to stop showing all other films, such as Thamma, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, Jolly LLB 3, and Regretting You, starting on October 31.

This will allow his last film, Roi Roi Binale, to be shown exclusively in all of the state’s theatres. “All theatres in the northeastern state will stop showing holdover releases,” a source informed Bollywood Hungama. There won’t be any screenings of recent films like Baahubali: The Epic, Single Salma, The Taj Story, The Black Phone 2, Bugonia, Good Boy, etc. Only Roi Roi Binale will be shown in Assamese theatres.

The movie has had record-breaking ticket sales, with weekday showings quickly filling up and weekend showings almost completely sold out. The first show may start even earlier in Tezpur, but screenings in Guwahati will start as early as 6:00 am.

The Assamese-language musical romance play Roi Roi Binale, which was produced by Zeal Creations and i-Creation, was directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and written by Zubeen Garg. In addition to Mousumi Alifa, Achurjya Borpatra, and Joy Kashyap, Zubeen Garg plays his last role in the movie. October 31 is the film’s scheduled release date.

According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), renowned Assamese singer-actor Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, while in Singapore. He was getting ready for the approaching North East India Festival while on a yacht excursion close to St. John’s Island. He passed out while swimming and was taken to Singapore General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

His death certificate lists “drowning” as the official cause of death. According to Singapore police, a coroner’s probe is being conducted to examine the specific circumstances, however preliminary enquiries indicate no suspicion of foul play.
