Raveena Tandon reveals she was first offered Juhi Chawla’s role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Darr

Raveena Tandon shared that she was the original choice for the role of Kiran in the 1993 film Darr, but she turned it down due to discomfort with a few scenes.

Raveena Tandon recently revealed a lesser-known casting detail about the 1993 film Darr, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol. In a new conversation on the ANI podcast, Raveena shared that she was first approached to play Kiran, the role that eventually went to Juhi Chawla. The film went on to become a milestone in Shah Rukh Khan’s career, especially for his intense portrayal and the iconic “K..K..Kiran” dialogue.

Raveena explained that she had reservations about certain scenes in the film, which led her to step away from the project. She shared that at the time, she was uncomfortable with wearing a swimming costume and with scenes involving close physical proximity. “There were a couple of scenes where I felt uncomfortable,” she said. “I would say, ‘No, I will not wear a swimming costume.’ I was very uncomfortable with such things then.”

During the interview, Raveena also mentioned that she was originally offered the 1991 film Prem Qaidi, which later marked Karisma Kapoor’s debut. She turned that down too for similar reasons. She added that her discomfort with certain on-screen situations often made people treat her differently, joking that she was considered “like a boy” because of how she held herself on set.

Despite these early choices, both films went on to become important stepping stones in the careers of Juhi Chawla and Karisma Kapoor.
