Sydney Sweeney has reacted to Christy, her most recent film, which did poorly at the box office. The actor claimed to be “proud” of the movie she made while posting BTS photos from the production on her Instagram account. Sydney plays Christy Martin, a former professional boxer, in the biographical drama.
Sharing a post on her Instagram, Sydney wrote: “I am so deeply proud of this movie. Proud of the film David made. proud of the story we told. proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honours of my life.”
She added, “This film stands for survival, courage, and hope. Through our campaigns, we’ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy’s story could save lives.”
It further read, “thank you to everyone who saw, felt, and believed and will believe in this story for years to come. if christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded. so yes I’m proud. why? because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life. thank you christy. i love you.”
In the meantime, her movie has not done well at the box office. The movie only made $1.3 million, with an average of just $649 per theatre, according to Box Office Mojo. With almost 2,000 theatres, the movie is currently in the top 10 worst openings for a fresh release. From April 2020 to May 2021, three of the films listed below were released during the pandemic.
The movie chronicles Martin’s personal experiences, such as her husband’s 2010 murder attempt, as well as her ascent in the 1990s. Black Bear, Anonymous Content, Votiv, Fifty-Fifty Films, and Yoki are the producers. The movie, which also starred Merritt Wever and Ben Foster, debuted in theatres on November 7.
