“Wrong implementation of normalization and lack of transparency”, Varun Awasthi on SSC examinations

When students spoke up against the normalization system of marks while writing SSC examinations, Varun Awasthi, an educator, showed his support by stating a few points in an interview with Business Upturn.

He pointed out that normalization decreases the marks of the student toppers resulting in them not being able to clear the final cut off. He questioned “a student doesn’t know whether he/she will be getting an easy shift or a difficult one before the exam and nor do they study accordingly. Why consider normalization of exams then?” For example, a student who got an easy shift will get 50 marks less according to the normalization rule hence, cannot make it to the final list.

Another concern which he touched upon was the lack of transparency of the current system. Mr. Awasthi firmly stated that neither does anyone know about what formula is being used to conduct normalization of marks nor do we know where and how many vacancies are being filled.

Indian students are seen voicing out their opinion about the normalization system of marks and about the recruitment process which is very unfair according to them for the past six months. Students are very frustrated with the Central government as the SSC CGL 2018 final results have still not been declared. These aspirants, students, student unions and political parties took to Twitter to express their resentment over the matter. Soon, #modi_rojgar_do started trending on Twitter.
