According to an order, the Rajasthani government named V Srinivas, a senior IAS officer from the 1989 batch who is currently on central deputation, as the state’s new chief secretary on Sunday. Following the dismissal of departing Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant, who will assume leadership at the Centre, the Department of Personnel issued the appointment order on Sunday.
On November 14, the Centre relieved Srinivas, who had been on central deputation for the previous seven years. He was working for the Union government as the Secretary of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare. He will now take over in Rajasthan and stay there till his retirement in September 2026.
In addition to his role as Chief Secretary, Srinivas has been appointed Principal Resident Commissioner for Rajasthan in New Delhi and Chairman of Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd. The nomination is expected to result in a significant administrative reorganisation, according to officials. Only one officer on the seniority list has been replaced by Srinivas.
After Subodh Agarwal of the 1988 batch, who is currently the Chairman of Rajasthan Financial Corporation and is scheduled to retire in December, he is the second-most senior IAS official in the state cadre. Srinivas will take over as Rajasthan’s most senior IAS official in December.
Srinivas is an experienced bureaucrat who has occupied a number of important roles. In 1989, he started his IAS career as a Sub-Divisional Officer in Bhilwara. Later, he was an SDO in Nimbahera. He served as the Watershed Development and Soil Conservation Department’s director from 1995 to 1998. In addition, he was the Collector of Jodhpur and Pali.
He served as External Affairs and Finance Minister Jaswant Singh’s private secretary under the NDA government led by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Later, he worked for the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC, as the Executive Director of India’s Technical Assistant. He has been on central deputation throughout the majority of his service.
