Sonu Nigam says AI should never replace human creativity during Satrangi Re tour

During his ongoing Satrangi Re tour, Sonu Nigam shared strong views on the growing role of AI in music, stressing that technology must remain a supportive tool and not overshadow human emotion.

Sonu Nigam, who is currently travelling across cities for his Satrangi Re tour, took a moment to reflect on how technology is reshaping the music world. In a recent interview, the singer spoke openly about the rise of artificial intelligence and the increasing influence of algorithms on what people listen to today.

Discussing the rapid evolution of technology, Sonu said that AI can be helpful but should never dominate creative spaces. He explained that he sees it as something that should remain in the background, assisting artists rather than overshadowing them.

As he put it, “AI should be treated as an assistant, not as your boss. It’s a tool that can support creativity, but it should never replace the human soul that gives music its true essence.” His comment highlighted his belief that music needs human emotion, something technology cannot replicate.

The singer also touched upon algorithm-driven content and how it shapes what listeners hear. When asked whether this shift affects playback singing and its emotional depth, he admitted he is still trying to understand how it works. “For now, I find that algorithms recommend music I’m genuinely inclined towards, so I don’t see it as a problem yet. We’ll have to wait and watch how it evolves,” he said.

Sonu also spoke about how music consumption has changed over the decades. He recalled the era of cassettes and albums, when listeners would physically buy music, creating a personal bond with their favourite songs.
