The Table Tennis Federation of India has announced financial assistance for COVID-19 hit players and coaches

In the last two months, Indian table tennis has had to deal with the deaths of two former players as a result of COVID-19.

The Table Tennis Federation of India announced financial aid to former and present Indian players and coaches affected by COVID-19 on Friday. The decision was made earlier this week during TTFI’s executive board meeting.

“We would assist all India players (top 16) afflicted by COVID-19. A one-lakh-rupee will be given to someone who is on oxygen support, a two-lakh-rupee will be given to someone who is extremely ill, and a three-lakh-rupee will be given to the family in the event of death,” M P Singh, former secretary, and TTFI consultant stated. “These are challenging times for everyone and this is the least we can do for the affected players and coaches,” he added.

This project includes all coaches who have worked with the Indian team. In the last two months, Indian table tennis has had to deal with the deaths of two former players as a result of COVID-19. Suhas Kulkarni (68), a former international player, and V Chandrasekhar (64) an Arjuna award-winning legend died after battling the terrible virus.

So yet, none of the existing players have reported being impacted by the rampant pandemic. Singh went on to say that if the country’s COVID-19 situation improves, TTFI would begin planning national events.
