‘The only thing that can stop us is ourselves,’ says Sterling of Manchester City ahead of the Champions League final

On Saturday, the Premier League champions will try to cap off a fantastic season by defeating Chelsea in Porto to win Europe’s highest award. Chelsea stands in the way of their first European Cup title, and Thomas Tuchel’s Blues have beaten City twice in the last six weeks, implying that this all-English final will go down to the wire. The England winger remains confident despite their recent losses against Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling has warned Chelsea that Manchester City is the only team that can stop themselves from winning the Champions League Final in Porto.

“The only thing that can stop us is ourselves if I am honest,” the 26-year-old said.

“It is a game where I expect a difficult test, but at the same time I expect us to pull through.

“I think the camp is pretty relaxed. Being in finals before with this football club, that only gives you that experience of going into a final.”

“In the past we haven’t had the rub of the green and the luck that we needed,” he added. “There have been games that we should have won and certain circumstances we haven’t. That is football at the end of the day and why we keep going and love it.

“This year, we played well and also had the luck that we needed.”

While Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez are more likely to start than Sterling at Estadio does Dragao, there is a good chance the England international will play some part, considering Guardiola’s ability to make five substitutions.

What are your predictions for the final? Do you think Chelsea can end their disappointing season on a high note or will City take revenge for the previous two losses?
