Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to step down from FC Bayern’s CEO post, Oliver Kahn to take over

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will step down from the FC Bayern CEO post as club legend Oliver Kahn takes over. Rummenigee signed the contract termination and will step down on 30th June, 2021.

Rummenigge won major club titles in a decade at Bayern as a player from 1974 to 1984, and returned at the request of club great Franz Beckenbauer in 1991 as vice president before assuming the role of CEO in 2002. He oversaw the complete domestic dominance of Bayern in the Bundesliga and also helped in turning the club into a European powerhouse.

In recent years the former Germany striker has enjoyed unprecedented success as a CEO with Bayern, with the club winning 14 of the last 19 league titles since the 2002-03 season.

After clinching the Bundesliga crown last month they have won 9 league titles in total. Bayern also won six domestic and international titles in 2019-20, including the Champions League and the Club World Cup completing a rare “Sextuple”.

“A hugely successful era is coming to an end at FC Bayern,” the club said. “At his own request… Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will retire from his position as CEO of FC Bayern Munich with effect from June 30, 2021.”

“Strategically it is the most logical time to do it,” Rummenigge said. “It is the end of the fiscal year and the start of a new coaching team. It is a departure filled with satisfaction and pride that I hand over the club that is intact on a sporting level as well as financially and structurally.”

Legendary goalkeeper and club legend Oliver Kahn will take his place on the Bayern board as the new CEO on June 1, 2021.
