Delhi government hospital prohibits use of Malayalam language in work spaces

The nursing staff of a Delhi government hospital was asked not to use Malayalam at work and only make use of languages like Hindi or English in a circular since most of the patients along with colleagues are not familiar with the language.

The circular was issued after a complaint sent to a senior officer in health department by a patient with regards to Malayalam being used at the hospital as said by the president of GB Pant nurses association, Liladhar Ramchandani who also claims to disagree with the wordings used in the circular.

According to the circular, Malayalam language was being used for communication at work places in GIMPER which is not understood by most of the patients and colleagues which creates a lot of inconvenience, a complaint for the same was received by the hospital.

The hospital also warned the nursing staff to make strict use of Hindi or English language only, failing which they shall face consequences.

An offence on the same would be taken by several people as the name of language “Malayalam” is mentioned in the circular as claimed by Ramchandani who is also the secretary of Delhi Nurses Federation. According to him there are no barriers or inconveniences caused by the use of the language Malayalam among nurses and the administration, the circular is a mere consequent of the filed complaint by the patient.

While on the other hand, knowing the same, several nurses from across the nation and Hails from Kerala with Malayalam being their Native Language.
