Jensen Ackles, who is all set to appear as Soldier Boy in the hit Amazon Studios’ series ‘The Boys’ has revealed his costume and look for the upcoming season 3 of the series. Ackles, who took to Instagram to reveal the look of Soldier Boy, shared a picture of himself in a beard ad wearing a predominantly green superhero suit, holding a shield. The costume, designed by Laura Jean Shannon and concept artist Greg Hopwood, seems to be partly inspired by Captain America, the superhero from Marvel Comics who also features in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Creator, Writer, and Showrunner of The Boys, Eric Kripke, said that the suit designed for Ackles/Soldier Boy is one of his favourites from the show. Kripke also remembered the time he cast Ackles as Soldier Boy, saying how excited he was for the process the actor had to go through with Super Suit designer Laura Jean. The showrunner says that although the design took six months to complete, the experience has surpassed Jensen’s expectations. Kripke set new expectations among fans, who are already excited about the costume, by saying how Ackles looks better in action with the costume.
Designer Laura Jean said she wanted to highlight the bygone era of grit and overt masculinity through the costume for Soldier Boy, baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality filled with a heavy dose of the old-school swagger of a cowboy.
Ackles, who had earlier starred in television series like Supernatural, Smallville, and Dawson’s Creek, joined the cast of the third season of The Boys in August last year, announcing his Soldier Boy character for the upcoming season. Soldier Boy is considered the original Superhero. The character, in the comics, becomes the first super celebrity after fighting in World War II, and a mainstay for decades in the American culture. The series, based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, follows a group of self-proclaimed vigilantes in their combat against superpowered individuals who abuse their superhuman abilities.
