Adults in Washington will be able to claim a free marijuana cigarette, also known as a joint, after they receive their COVID-19 vaccination.
Any adult 21 and older can claim their free joint after getting the jab, was reported by the New York Times.
The board said that it will permit marijuana retailers to provide customers aged 21 or above with pre-rolled joint at their stores after they have received their first or second dose at an active vaccine clinic. The offer has been only applied to marijuana and not to other products like edibles.
In the New York Times database, 58 per cent of people have administered the first dose where as 49 per cent have been fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
“Residents with a proof of vaccination can also get a free beer/wine/cocktail,” said the Washington’s liquor and cannabis board.
These measures have been taken to increase the pace of immunisation against COVID-19.
This is only applicable for those who get vaccinated within a six-week “window” and will only run until July 12.
US president Joe Biden has set a target of getting at least one vaccine shot into the arms of 70 per cent of people before it’s independence day, i.e. July 4.
Washington is not the first and the only state with a cannabis-related incentive. Arizona had used a similar promotion, for the residents of age 21 and above who got vaccinated, where free marijuana joints and gummy candies were offered. New Jersey offered free beers. New York and Ohio offered a raffle for full-ride college scholarship. Many other states have offered many different inducements like lotteries, plane tickets, scholarships, etc.
