On Tuesday, Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, said that the rebel BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) lawmakers will join his Samajwadi Party (SP) amid reports that nine of them have already met him. Akhilesh did acknowledge the fact that the meeting did take place, but has not elaborated on what has been transpired and how many of the rebels met with him.
Akhilesh Yadav told a news channel that the BSP rebels will soon be joining Samajwadi Party. He also said that many of the senior leader have met him and many others were in touch with him. He said, “they want to join the Samajwadi Party and want to contest in the elections.”
Although there was no immediate response from the BSP, which had been contested in the 2019 national polls in the Uttar Pradesh in alliance with the Samajwadi Party.
Akhilesh Yadav mentioned that the people of Uttar Pradesh want the Bhartiya Janata Party government out, and the elections are due next year. He also mentions how the people were suffering due to the alleged corruption, COVID-19 mismanagement and he claimed that the Samajwadi Party will win.
Akhilesh Yadav ruled out any alliance with the bigger parties. He mentions how the experience the party had with Congress and BSP was bitter in the assembly polls of 2017 and Lok Sabha polls of 2019, respectively. He mentions that they will ally with the small parties.
