Ankeet Chavan will return to competitive cricket as BCCI lifts the ban on him

Mumbai cricketer Ankeet Chavan’s punishment has come to an end as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lifted the cricketer’s life ban. Ankeet, who is now 35-year old was suspended from playing all forms of the game his name was heard in the spot-fixing scandal during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).  Along with Ankeet, Indian cricketer S Sreesanth and Ajit Chandila were also convicted for the same punishment. The trio was part of the 2008 champion side of the Rajasthan Royals.

On Tuesday, June 15, the country’s top cricketing body’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hemang Amin informed Ankeet Chavan that his punishment of life ban has been reduced to seven years going by the BCCI ethics officer’s directives and the court. With this development, it is understood that his sentence ended last September itself.

Speaking about the positive development in his life,  according to Cricbuzz, Ankeet stated “I cannot say how much I am relieved. I can’t wait to be back in the ground. I thank the BCCI and the Mumbai Cricket Association for their help. Once the restrictions are lifted, I will hit the ground and will play. Whether or not I can get back into the Mumbai team, I want to continue playing and I will do that. The process will take care of the rest.”
