American child actor Julia Butters, who had her breakout role in the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is now all set to join Steven Spielberg’s next film, which according to reports is loosely based on the director’s childhood growing up in the state of Arizona. Butters is expected to play the role of sister to the young filmmaker, Gabriel LaBelle, which will be the central focus of the story. The project will be a follow-up to director Spielberg’s West Side Story remake, which is expected to release this year.
American actress Michelle Williams has already been roped in to play the role which is inspired by Spielberg’s mom in the film but will be done with a separate and original voice. Canadian-American actor, comedian, writer, and filmmaker Seth Rogen has been brought aboard to play the filmmaker’s favorite uncle. Paul Dano is said to be portraying the character inspired by Spielberg’s father.
Since the core story of the movie will be somewhat personal and intimate to the director, the movie will also mark the first time since A.I. Artificial Intelligence, which released in 2001, that Spielberg will be taking part in screenwriting duties, which he will be co-writing along with Tony Kushner, who has already involved himself in a number of movies by Spielberg. The film is expected to begin production this summer and is anticipated to get a release sometime in the year 2022. The movie will be produced by Spielberg, Kushner, and Kristie Macosko Krieger.
