Spain to lift outdoor mask requirement from June 26: PM Pedro Sanchez

Spain PM Pedro Sanchez said this will be the last weekend when we wear masks outdoors because next June 26 we won’t have to wear masks in outdoor public spaces.

Spain is all set to lift the legal requirement of wearing a mask outdoors from June 26, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Friday. In the conference PM Sanchez said, “This is going to be the last weekend on once we wear masks outdoors because from June 26 we do not need to wear masks in outdoor public spaces.”

The lifting is to be approved at by a special cabinet meeting on Thursday, Sanchez said on a visit to Barcelona. “We will start to enjoy life within the street without wearing a mask.”

Masks first became obligatory on conveyance in early May 2020 during a bid to scale back Covid-19 infections, and within weeks were made compulsory within the street for anyone aged six and above. Anyone violating the principles had faced a fine.

Earlier this year, Spain briefly introduced a law making masks obligatory in the least times on the beach but after a backlash it had been amended, meaning they weren’t necessary while sunbathing or swimming — if social distancing was respected.

As per earlier reports, the 14-day cumulative number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants is below 100 for the first time in 10 months, as the spread of the virus continues to ease. Spain has thus far lost over 80,000 lives to the virus and counted quite 3.7 million cases.
