Paramilitary training for the Saudis who killed Journalist Jamal Khishoggi

According to the New York Times (NYT) reports on Tuesday, the four men- from the team of Saudi Kill received paramilitary training in United States for killing a Washington Post Journalist- Jamal Khashoggi.

Who was Jamal Khashoggi?

Jamal Ahmed Khashoggi, by profession was a Saudi Arabian Journalist, Author, Dissident and an Opinion Columnist at Washington Post. He was also the editor-in-chief and general manager of Al-Arab news channel.

He was a United States resident who was assassinated at Saudi consulate in Istanbul where he went to obtain the documents related to his planned marriage but never came back, sources claims.

Who provided paramilitary training to the four-saudi-men?

According to New York Times (NYT) reports, the paramilitary training was provided by Tier 1 group, owned by a private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management

Cerberus Capital Management is an American private equity firm, specialized in distressed investing. The firm is based in New York and is owned and run by Steve Feinberg. Notably, the reports by NYT claims that the Americans who approved the training knew that the four men were involved in the assassination.

Cerberus senior executive Louis Bremer confirmed on the statement that his company had its own role in providing the training to protect Saudi leaders. However, further reports by NYT claims that the training provided to the men included “Countering an attack” and “safe marksmanship”.

Referring to NYT reports the state department spokesperson Ned Price said that the department cannot comment on any of the licensed defence export licensing activity alleged in media reporting. Further Ned Price adds, that the United States policy towards Saudi Arabia “will prioritise the rule of law and respect for human rights.”
