Controversial Wuhan Laboratory gets nominated for top science award in China

The Wuhan Laboratory in China has been nominated for the country’s top science award. The Laboratory is primarily being suspected for spreading COVID-19 across countries. As per reports, the Wuhan Institute of virology has been nominated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for its Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize in the year 2021.

The head of Wuhan Institute of Virology, Shi Zhengli popularly dubbed as bat-woman has also bagged a special mention from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences stated that the controversial lab has been nominated for the award for directing ‘the most comprehensive and systematic identification research on the aetiology of COVID-19’. Aetiology is medical context concerns to the investigations of the cause, set of cause or manner of causation of a disease or condition.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences claimed, “The projects results have laid an important foundation and platform for the follow up research on the origin, epidemiology and pathogenic mechanism of the COVID-19 virus.”

As per the academy, the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s research contributed to the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic and establishment of COVID 19 vaccination.

The Lab’s director, Dr. Zhengli has been inculpated for conducting ‘gain-of-function’ experiments where the scientist strengthen the virus to better examine the effects on hosts. Several scientist believes that the predominant coronavirus slipped out of Dr. Zhengli’s Lab.

On the contrary, Dr. Zhengli debunked every accusations related to the virus breach from the lab. She claimed, ” How on earth can I bring up evidences for something where there is no evidence?”
