Tokyo Olympics: Czech beach volleyball player tests COVID Positive In Olympic Village

Czech beach volleyball player Ondrej Perusic has tested positive for Covid-19 in the Olympic Village in Tokyo

After the news on Saturday, the Czech beach volleyball team confirmed about a staff member had tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Tokyo on a charter flight from Prague. One more big blow has hit the Czech beach volleyball team, as the main player, Ondrej Perusic tested positive for COVID19 at the Olympic Village in Tokyo, informed the Czech Olympic Committee on Monday.

“Unfortunately, beach volleyball player Ondrej Perusic has a positive finding from a sample taken during daily testing in the Olympic village on Sunday,” Martin Doktor, sports director of the Czech Olympic Committee, said in a statement as quoted by Indian Express.

The 26-year-old Ondrej Perusic was expected to play his first match on July 26, which the team seeks to postpone due to isolation requirements. “We are now looking into the possibility of postponing the games or other options that would allow the boys to start the tournament later on,” Doktor said.

Beach volleyball said, said he was “very upset” with the news, but said he understood concerns of health as it is the priority.

“For now, I don’t see this as the end of the world or a tragedy, I was vaccinated and I tried to comply with the public health standards. Unfortunately, I think I made a mistake somewhere and got infected. It’s my responsibility above all,” Perusic said.

Ondrej Perusic’s positive report appears to be the fourth in the Olympic Village after the two South African footballers were affected by the virus and their team’s video analyst were revealed on Sunday.
