We have high expectations for Great Expectations, and it appears that Hulu’s miniseries rendition of the famous story will be even better than anticipated thanks to a new trailer published today. Olivia Colman will portray the regal Mistress Havisham, returning to a time period with which she is familiar. Madam Havisham, a woman who takes pleasure in other people’s suffering, rescues an orphaned kid named Pip (Fionn Whitehead) from his deplorable surroundings and abandons him on London’s seedy streets.
Apparently, Pip is aware that an unidentified benefactor has assisted him in his ascent to the top, but he is unaware that Miss Havisham is the one in charge. Miss Havisham happily observes as Pip’s world is turned upside down and descends into anarchy. Furthermore, We get a clearer glimpse at Colman’s horrifying transition into the evil Mistress Havisham in the teaser. The Heartstopper actress conjures up images of her Academy Award-winning performance in Yargos Lanthimos’ The Favourite with pale complexion and decayed teeth. Colman’s portrayal of the deceitful noblewoman playing games with both Pip and her other young project, Estella, reminds us that a period drama is simply one of the genres in which she shines the greatest (Shalom Brune-Franklin).
Miss Havisham and Estella come up with a plan for the young woman to “break his heart” while Miss Havisham sits back to “watch the breakage” in order to take full advantage of Pip’s optimism regarding both wealth and love. As their feelings for each other intensify, chaos ensues, and Jaggers (Ashley Thomas) reminds Pip that “darkness always triumphs over good intentions.”
Moreover, Great Expectations is all set and scheduled to premiere on March 26, 2023. Check out the official teaser below:
