Paramount Pictures, the studio that produced the highly successful ‘A Quiet Place’ franchise, has fixed March 23 2023 as the release date for a spin-off feature film based on the franchise. The new film, which is not expected to be the third installment in the franchise but rather a spin-off movie based in the same world, is being helmed by Jeff Nichols, the director of acclaimed movies like Take Shelter (2011) and Midnight Special (2016).
Nichols who will be writing and directing the new addition to the ‘Quiet Place World’ has based his story for the spin-off on an idea given by the actor, screenwriter, and director of the first two movies of the franchise, John Krasinski. The spinoff is still at a very early stage of development at the studio, and no plot details have been released yet. However, we do know that the movie will not be a direct sequel to the franchise, and hence it will not be the story of the Abbott family from the first two movies. The movie is expected to be about a different set of characters surviving in a post-apocalyptic world with sound-sensitive violent alien beings swarming all around. The movie will be Nichols’ take on the world created by the original director John Krasinski.
Rumours of Jeff Nichols’ involvement in the franchise began in November 2020. With the original creator Krasinski himself stating how easily the films lend themselves to spin-offs, Nichols seems to be the perfect fit to take over the material, given the director’s previous works.
The previous movies in the franchise were a huge success. With the recently released sequel to the 2018 blockbuster making $48.4 million over a single weekend, it proved to be one of the highest for any movie released during the Pandemic. Both the movies of the franchise were highly praised by critics and moviegoers alike, increasing the anticipation for the third movie in the franchise. The consistent success of the franchise seems to have given confidence to the studio to move forward in an official capacity towards the third movie.
