A woman has right to put her grievance even after decades says Delhi court while acquitting Priya Ramani in a defamation case

The Delhi Court on Feb 17 has acquitted Priya Ramani on a defamation case filed against her by former Minister of State for External Affairs and editor turned politician, MJ Akbar.

Priya Ramani in the wake of #MeToo movement in 2017 wrote in a Vogue article that she was sexually harassed by her former boss during her job interview and one year later she revealed that her boss was none other then MJ Akbar who had been accused previously by many other woman for sexual misconducts.

MJ Akbar filed a defamation case against Priya on Oct 15, 2021 that she only came forward when other woman began accusing him which led to him resigning from his position of Minister of State for External Affairs while he denied all allegations against him claiming that all of the statements were untrue and they tarnished his stellar reputation.

Adding to this, the Delhi Court said that every woman has a right to put her grievances even after decades and as a society we need to understand that what sexual assaults does to one’s mind and the right of reputation can’t be protected at the cost of right to dignity.
