AAP MP Raghav Chadha’s suspension revoked by Rajya Sabha Chairman

On the motion moved by BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar overturned the suspension of Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha on Monday.

A Privileges Committee meeting of the Rajya Sabha was held in Parliament to discuss Chadha’s suspension matter.

After complaints, Chadha was suspended from the Upper House on August 11 for “breach of privilege” during the Monsoon Session.

He was accused of failing to obtain the consent of five Rajya Sabha MPs before naming them to a select committee.

The MP was suspended till the Privilege Committee submitted its findings on the accusation that he forged the signatures of five MPs in a motion related to the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Chadha has stated that the suspension is patently illegal and without legal authority.

His suspension was the result of a motion moved by House Leader Piyush Goyal, who sought action against the AAP leader for including the names of some Upper House members without their consent in a proposed select committee for the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

Chadha moved to the top court, seeking his indefinite suspension from the Rajya Sabha.
