Academy Museum Gala 2023 to Honor Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and Sofia Coppola

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ annual fundraising gala on Oct. 14 will honour Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and Sofia Coppola, the museum announced Tuesday.

Since its opening in 2021, the Academy Museum Gala has been an important fundraising event for the Los Angeles film museum. This year’s gala, the third of its kind, was approved by the striking actors and writers guilds.

During the ongoing work stoppages, SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild have placed restrictions on the promotion activities its members can take part in.

At the gala, which is being co-chaired by Ava DuVernay, Ryan Murphy, Halle Berry, and museum trustee Eric Esrailian, Streep, Winfrey, Jordan, and Coppola will each be given awards tp celebrate their careers.

In a statement, Jacqueline Stewart, director and president of the Academy Museum, said, “We are excited to gather again at our third annual Academy Museum Gala to celebrate the power, global impact, and indelible importance of cinema.”

After years of delays, the $484 million Academy Museum designed by Renzo Piano has established itself as a cultural l mainstay in Los Angeles, receiving up to 700,000 visitors every year.
