According to sources, Bharti Airtel will depart from the music business and shut down its Wynk Music app. An Airtel official confirmed the information just hours after the business announced a strategic relationship with iPhone maker Apple for video and music streaming. The company will absorb it’s all Wynk Music staff.
Airtel released the Wynk Music app in 2014, and it is expected to have more over 100 million subscribers. As per PTI, a source stated, “Airtel is planning to close Wynk Music in the next couple of months. It will absorb all the employees into the company. We can confirm that we will sunset Wynk Music, and all Wynk Music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem. Airtel users will have access to Apple Music. Additionally, Wynk Premium users will receive exclusive offers from Airtel for Apple.”
The company has signed a contract with Apple to offer permission to use Apple Music and special benefits to its iPhone customers. Previously in the morning, Airtel said that Wynk Music premium subscribers will have access to Apple TV+, Apple’s video content platform, through its video streaming platform Xstream and Apple Music later this year. Airtel will now deliver exclusive Apple Music incentives to its iPhone subscribers. Airtel’s business-to-customer portfolio, which includes Airtel Wynk, Airtel Thanks, and Xtream, has over 220 million active subscribers.
