The 2011 release of Singham signalled the start of an unusual partnership between director Rohit Shetty and actor Ajay Devgn. Ten years after the film’s success opened up the cop universe for them both, the pair is returning with Singham again.
Both Ajay and Rohit attended a special screening of Singham in Mumbai prior to its Diwali release, where they discussed their experiences filming the movie and how the now-famous dialogue line “Ata Majhi Satakli” was developed on site. When asked about the conversation and if he anticipated its iconic status in the years after its release, Rohit responded as follows: “Really, we had just written those characters—Singham and the villain Jaykant Shikre (played by Prakash Raj)—in Maharashtrian.”
That line became famous! The villain tells that line the rest of the time; he only says it once in the movie. We never considered it to be more than a queue! Once more, a language that is now widely spoken! We never gave it that kind of thought.
“In that moment it was just a queue!” commented Ajay, echoing the same emotion. There are numerous lines, and no one was aware of what would follow at the moment. That was only a line when it was being done, but it later became into a cult line.
Regarding Singham’s screening, the producers wrote in a press release, “The decision to bring Singham back to theatres comes from the overwhelming demand of fans eager to experience the mass entertainer Singham again on the big screen before the release of Singham Again.”
In addition to Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor plays the villain in Singham Again. Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar are also introduced into the cop realm in the movie. Tiger Shroff and Deepika Padukone portray two new characters that are also introduced to the universe. Singham Again opens in theatres over the Diwali weekend on November 1.
