Akshay Kumar’s annual Raksha Bandhan post for his sister Alka Hiranandani touched a chord with fans, who praised the actor’s heartfelt words and cherished the sibling bond he openly celebrates each year.
Even Bollywood’s busiest stars took a moment to mark Raksha Bandhan, the festival honouring the relationship between brothers and sisters. On Saturday, August 9, Akshay Kumar took to Instagram to share a special moment with his sister, Alka. The post, now widely shared, showed the duo in his living room performing the traditional Rakhi rituals.
Alka, dressed in a yellow suit with a dupatta draped over her head, was seen doing the aarti while Akshay, in a blue shirt and black beanie, sat with his eyes closed. Alongside the picture, the superstar penned a moving caption: “Aankhein band hai, toh maa dikh rahi hai. Aur aankhein khol kar teri smile. Love you Alka. Happy Rakhi.” (With my eyes closed, I see my mother. And with my eyes open, I see your smile. Love you, Alka.)
Akshay has made it a tradition to post about his sister every Raksha Bandhan. In 2021, he wrote, “My go to person when I’m in a dilemma, someone who’s always stood by my side, corrected me when I’m wrong, happiest for my achievements. The most selfless person I know, my sister Alka I wouldn’t have been the person I am without you. #HappyRakshaBandhan.”
The post resonated with fans, many of whom flooded the comments section with messages about their own Raksha Bandhan memories and the gifts they exchanged with siblings.
