AKTU will cover the fees for students who lost a parent to COVID-19

The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), a public collegiate university in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, announced on Saturday that it will pay for the entire fee remaining for the sessions of those students who lost a parent to COVID-19.

According to Hindustan Times, Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice-Chancellor of the university said, “The university has decided to bear the fees for all the remaining sessions of all such students whose parent passed away due to Covid-19.”

The decisions were taken at the Finance Committee meeting that took place on Saturday under Pathak. This measure will benefit the students of both private and government institutions associated with AKTU.

Here are a few other decisions that were taken at the meeting:

  • It was also decided that assistance of ₹5 lakh will be provided to the family members of government and private institution teachers who were lost to Covid-19.
  • To recognise the COVID-19 warriors at the university and their support staff, Assistant Registrar Dr. Ayush Srivastava will receive a ₹50,000 reward, AKTU driver Tulsiram, and IET ambulance driver Ashok Kumar will each receive a reward of  ₹10,000.
  • The proposal to set up a Centre of Excellence in AKTU’s Centre for Advanced Studies was approved and a budgetary provision of  ₹6 crores has been sanctioned for setting up this centre.

The members of the meeting included Special Secretary, Technical Education, Kripashankar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Vineet Kasal, University Finance Officer GP Singh, Registrar Nand Lal Singh, Controller of Examinations Rajiv Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Vandana Sehgal among others.
