Al Ahly gets its 21st African title by defeating Renaissance in the Super Cup final. Mohamed Sherif and Salah Mohsen scored in the second half which led Al Ahly of Eygpt 2-0 win over Renaissance of Morocco in the CAF Super Cup final on Friday. Sherif finishes the game with a sweeping passing move by hammering a left-foot shot past goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi into the far corner in the 57th minute of the match.

Ahly had ended in a run of upsets in the Super Cup with Champions League title-holders Esperance of Tunisia losing the 2019 and 2020 matches in Qatar. Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has currently won four CAF competitions with one less than the most successful African, Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti. The annual match between the CAF Confederation Cup winners was watched by a crowd approx limit of 7,000 people in the Jassim-bin-Hamad Stadium because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was a fierce contest with the Algerian referee who had to separate rivals just before half-time after one of the man injury stoppages that spoilt the game. The result confirms that the Ahly team has won nine games in the Champions League, seven games in the Super Cup and four in the African Cup Winners Cup and one in Confederation Cup which totals their 21 African titles.
