Alec Baldwin has taken legal action against Santa Fe officials, alleging that they maliciously prosecuted him and violated his civil rights in connection with the fatal Rust shooting incident. In a lawsuit filed in New Mexico federal court, Baldwin claims prosecutors deliberately withheld evidence, fabricated testimony, and targeted him for political reasons.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin argues that Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Kari Morrissey conspired to make him a scapegoat, working to ensure his conviction by manipulating evidence and coercing witnesses. His complaint follows a judge’s ruling that dismissed involuntary manslaughter charges against him due to the prosecution’s failure to disclose key evidence and inconsistencies in the testimony of the special prosecutor.
Baldwin’s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, have slammed the prosecution’s conduct, stating that legal proceedings should be about truth and justice, not personal or political agendas. They argue that the officials involved repeatedly violated Baldwin’s rights, harassing him rather than pursuing an impartial investigation.
Beyond wrongful prosecution, Baldwin’s lawsuit also accuses the officials of defamation, malicious abuse of the judicial process, and evidence tampering.
