Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik has opened up about her ongoing health challenges, revealing that she is still coping with a rare hearing disorder that has significantly impacted her career. Speaking in an interview with NDTV, the singer shared that her condition continues to affect her ability to take on new work.
Diagnosed in 2024 with a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss following a sudden viral attack, Alka had earlier informed fans about her condition through social media. In the recent update, she admitted that recovery has been slow and that she remains unable to accept recording assignments, even though composers continue to approach her.
Her last recorded track was “Naram Kaalja” from Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali and composed by A. R. Rahman. Since then, she has stayed away from professional commitments, focusing on her health and recovery.
Earlier this year, Alka was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India, recognising her contribution to Indian music. Responding to the honour, she said she had not expected it and welcomed it with gratitude.Her latest remarks underline a challenging phase, as she continues to prioritise healing while fans await her return to music.
