Aly Goni clarifies silence during Ganpati celebrations; says he meant no disrespect

Aly Goni has addressed the trolling he faced for not chanting ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ during Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, explaining that his silence came from confusion and caution, not disrespect.

Actor Aly Goni has spoken up after facing criticism for staying quiet during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with Jasmin Bhasin and Nia Sharma. A video from the festivities, hosted at Ankita Lokhande’s residence, showed Jasmin and others enthusiastically chanting while Aly stood silently, sparking backlash online.

In a conversation on Filmygyan’s YouTube show OffScript, Aly clarified that he never intended to offend anyone. “I didn’t even realise it. I was lost in my thoughts. I never imagined something like this could create such a big issue. This was my first time attending Ganpati celebrations…I didn’t know what exactly I was supposed to do there,” he explained.

The Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor admitted that he was cautious during the rituals. “I am very random, I say anything, and I didn’t want to offend anyone unintentionally,” he said. Aly also pointed out that his faith doesn’t allow him to perform puja but stressed that respecting all religions has always been important to him. “It is written in the Quran that we must respect everyone, and I do,” he added.

Despite the trolling, Aly stood firm that his silence was not out of disrespect but hesitation in an unfamiliar setting. The actor, who has been dating Jasmin Bhasin for a few years, is well-known for his stints in Bigg Boss, Nach Baliye 9, and Khatron Ke Khiladi 9.
