Composer Amaal Mallik has spoken out following public allegations made by music duo Sachet Tandon and Parampara Thakur, who accused him of making “false and baseless” claims regarding the popular song Bekhayali from the 2019 film Kabir Singh. The controversy surfaced after Sachet–Parampara released a video clarifying their stance and publicly calling out Amaal.
In the video’s caption, the duo stated that addressing the issue openly was necessary for their mental peace. They alleged that Amaal had attempted to take credit for a song that was originally composed by them, and strongly criticised him in the post.
Responding to the accusations in an interview with Zoom, Amaal firmly denied the claims. He maintained that he has never taken credit for music he did not create. “I’ll take the bullet but speak the truth,” he said, adding that attempts were being made to malign his reputation within the industry.
Amaal further clarified that he has never claimed ownership of songs composed by others, nor denied recreations when they were done. He argued that none of the composers whose songs he has recreated in the past have accused him of damaging or misrepresenting their work.
Questioning the decision to raise the issue on social media, Amaal said that if there were genuine grievances, legal routes should have been pursued instead. He asserted that public accusations without court proceedings only fuel speculation rather than resolve disputes.
The exchange has sparked widespread discussion within the music fraternity, bringing industry credit, authorship and public accountability back into focus.
