Amazon Inc. plans to work with Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd, better known as Foxconn. to manufacture Fire TV Stick in India. This will be Amazon’s first manufacturing operation in India.
The company will start collaborating with an auxiliary of Hon Hai, contract manufacturer Cloud Network Technology in Chennai, to launch its set-top box ‘Fire TV Stick.’
“Amazon will continuously evaluate scaling capacity to additional marketplaces/ cities depending on the domestic demand,” said the company in its blog post.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, India’s technology minister appreciated the decision saying, “Amazon should also work with small local shops and make them a stakeholder in the larger efforts of Amazon to grow its business.”
