Netflix’s new docu-series American Murder: Gabby Petito revisits the tragic case that captivated the internet in 2021.
As people reflect on the case, many wonder: Where are Brian Laundrie’s parents now?
Brian’s parents, Roberta and Christopher Laundrie, have largely stayed out of the public eye and continue to live a private life, according to People magazine.
The Civil Lawsuit & Settlement
In March 2022, Gabby Petito’s parents, Joseph and Nichole, sued the Laundries, accusing them of:
- Helping Brian cover up Gabby’s murder
- Allegedly assisting him in plans to flee
- Going on vacation while ignoring Gabby’s family’s desperate calls and texts
In 2024, both families reached a confidential settlement. The Laundries’ attorney, Steve Bertolino, stated to Fox News:
“Christopher and Roberta Laundrie and I participated in mediation with the Petito family, and the civil lawsuit has now been resolved. The terms of the resolution are confidential, and we look forward to putting this matter behind us.”
Recap of the Case
Gabby Petito was a travel influencer documenting her van-life journey with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie. However, things took a dark turn when Brian returned home to Florida—alone.
