Amid backlash, Golden Globes 2024’s host Jo Koy says he is ‘just supporting’ Taylor Swift

A few days after making fun of Taylor Swift at the 2024 Golden Globes, Jo Koy said that he’s a Swiftie. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, he said, “I didn’t understand the Taylor [Swift] tiff.”

He added, “What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work. I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke.”

The 52-year-old comedian teased Swift during his opening monologue as the Golden Globes host, saying, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.”

But he soon apologized for it, as the joke fell flat. Despite apologizing, the 12-time Grammy winner seemed annoyed by the jab, staring at him while sipping her drink.

Koy made it clear in his interview with the LA Times that the comment was meant to take a shot at the NFL and not her.  He added, “It’s like, the cool thing about the [Golden] Globes is we don’t need to do cutaways for ratings.”

Earlier this week, he told “Entertainment Tonight” that he felt NFL cutaways of her during games were “cute.”
