World silver-medallist Amit Panghal (52kg) by defeating Russia’s Tamir Galanov is assured of at least getting a bronze medal at the Governor’s Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia after he advanced to the semifinals. The Haryana – boxer is also the reigning Asian Games champion, prevailing 5-0 against Tamir Galanov.
However the other Indian boxers had to exit the tournament in the opening rounds itself. Mohammed Hussamuddin, Sumit Sangwan, Naman Tanwar, Vinod Tanwar and Ashish Kumar had an early exit.
While Vinod Tanwar lost to Russia’s Igor Tsaregorodtsev Naman Tanwar was beaten by Kazakhstan’s Aybek Oralbay. Ashish Kumar was defeated by Russia’s Nikita Kuzmin and Hussamuddin by Miraziz Murzakhalilov.
